Meet Barbara Wixom Dr. Barbara Wixom is an Associate Professor of Commerce at the
University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce and Director of
UVA's 16-month M.S. in M.I.T. graduate program. Professor Wixom is an
associate editor of the Business Intelligence Journal, a research
fellow of The Data Warehousing Institute (TDWI), and an executive
director for the Teradata University Network. She has published in such
journals as Information Systems Research; MIS Quarterly; MIS Quarterly
Executive; and Journal of MIS and has presented her work at national
and international conferences.
Professor Wixom has worked with a variety of leading organizations in different industries, including:

- Sherwin-Williams
- 3M
- Carlson Hospitality
- Owens
& Minor
- First American Corporation
- Whirlpool
- IRS
Three
of her case studies have won international awards from the Society for
Information Management for innovation in information technology. She is the author of two leading textbooks, on systems analysis and
design, which are published by John Wiley & Sons. She
also is the recipient of an All-University Teaching Award, which
recognizes professors’ teaching excellence, particularly those
professors who inspire and motivate students.
About the Career Transition Luncheon The basic purpose of
this DC Wharton Club group (for Wharton Club members and other area
professionals) is to provide a venue for anyone who is in “career
transition.” In reality, you - and each of us - is always in a state of
transition. These transitions vary in type, speed, significance and
impact, and they occur in our personal and professional lives.
