fellow Wharton and Penn alum Lisa Benjamin will head up
this new Club special interest group

Lisa Benjamin is a Principal of Newmark of Washington, DC LLC. She is responsible for commercial leasing and investment sales transactions with a focus on unlocking value through land entitlements, particularly for the multifamily sector. Her clients include Lerner Enterprises. Federal Capital Partners and the Episcopal Diocese of Washington. She represents both buyers and sellers of land and income producing properties, and asset types include residential, retail and self storage. She also provides real estate advisory and disposition services for a variety of education and public sector clients including the District of Columbia Public Schools, The Village Academy of DC and Connections Learning. Her strong market research and finance background enable her to analyze the best alternative for any client and find value through alternative  development  schemes.


Prior to joining Newmark of Washington, Ms. Benjamin was the Senior Vice President of Acquisitions and Marketing for Rocky Gorge Communities, a Washington area homebuilder now owned by K Hovnanian Homes. She was instrumental in securing land entitlements, financing, product development, and all phases of marketing and advertising.  Prior to Rocky Gorge, Ms. Benjamin was Vice President of Product Development for Western Development Corporation, a national retail developer whose Washington projects include Georgetown Park and Potomac Mills. Ms. Benjamin also performed consulting and strategic advisory services for the J E Robert Company, evaluating distressed real estate for various public sector agencies.


Ms. Benjamin earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and a Masters of Business Administration from the Wharton School of Finance with a concentration in real estate and marketing.  While at Wharton, she worked at the Wharton Small Business Development Center.


Ms. Benjamin is actively involved in the Washington District Council of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), and chaired the Workforce Housing Committee. She is a mentor for ULI’s Young Leaders Group and a frequent participant in Urban Plan, a program that educates high school students on the real estate development process.  Ms. Benjamin is also a founding member of Hadley’s Park, an organization that provides accessible playgrounds for children with disabilities across the country. She has served as a team leader for COMPASS, an affiliate of Greater D.C. Cares that provides pro bono business consulting services to not-for-profits and associations in the Washington area.  Ms. Benjamin is a member of the Wharton Club of Washington and a member of the Community Action Committee for Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW). Ms. Benjamin was named a “Woman to Watch” by the New York Real Estate Journal and was honored as one of the top real estate investment sales professionals by the Greater Washington Commercial Association of REALTORS.
